Our goal is to introduce sustainable, capacity building activities that will lead people out of poverty and dependence into self-sufficiency. "If you give a man a fish he will eat for a day. If you give him a fishing rod and teach him how to fish he will eat for a life time." Special emphasis will be placed on strengthening the socioeconomic status of women.
Women and girls will be taught sewing skills. Established in May, 2008, the goal is that when they complete their training, they will form a small company to supply uniforms to schools within the district. Ten young people have been identified. They will be receiving training in sewing skills at the vocational school. The Foundation has already procured 8 sewing machines and sewing materials. The Friends of the Foundation donated the sewing materials and four of the sewing machines.
Starting in May, 2008, Several projects will be started that will help the people in the community including People Living With AIDS (PLWA) to become self-sufficient. The projects will include:
So far 15 persons have been identified to participate in the rabbit and nutrition garden projects.
The young people in these rural areas lag behind the rest of the world in technology. Some of them have never even seen a computer. Young people will receive training in computer skills at the Tekeshe Foundation vocational school. The Tekeshe Foundation has already received two computers from the Friends of the Foundation. The vocational school is in need of more computers and printers
Young people will receive training in carpentry skills at the Tekeshe Foundation vocational school.
